When she was 16, Sarah Flannery of Ireland completed mathematical research that led to a major Internet breakthrough. The discovery earned her the title European Young Scientist of the Year in 1988. Her story is detailed in a new book In Code: A Mathematical Journey (Workman, $24.95).

Limited-edition mini Pez dispensers featuring the Trix rabbit, Lucky the leprechaun, Sonny the cuckoo bird and BuzzBee (along with a pack of Pez candy) have been added to boxes of Trix, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs and Honey Nut Cheerios cereals. The boxes are available now through mid-July but may sell out sooner.

Crayola -- the crayon folks -- have joined the gel pen craze. The pens are equipped with a comfort grip, smooth flowing ink and a clip-on cap. They come in two color assortments and sell for about $4.50 per pack.
Wanted: Animated kids

Radio Disney (WWMI-AM 1380) is helping Toon Disney and Time Warner Cable look for the "Most Animated Kid" in the Tampa Bay area. Toon Disney will conduct the search at the Florida Aquarium (701 Channelside Drive, Tampa) from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Kids 4 to 14 will be given scenes from Disney's Hercules cartoon TV series to act out. The local winner will receive prizes and a chance to compete nationally for a trip to California where he or she will be animated in a real Disney cartoon.
