BASEBALL: The Florida Marlins will hold two tryout camps for players ages 15-18.

The first camp will be Wednesday at Tampa's Joe DiMaggio Complex. The second will be at the University of Tampa on Saturday. Registration for both camps begins at 9 a.m., and the camp will last until approximately 1 p.m. American Legion players must have a letter from their coach allowing them to participate.

The San Diego Padres will hold a tryout camp for players ages 16-23 at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Durant High. For more information, call Joe Bochy at (813) 787-8865.

SOFTBALL: The Tampa Bay Nighthawks are seeking players who can challenge for a starting position. Players who will celebrate their 50th birthday during 2001 are eligible to play. Interested players should call Tony Edwards at (813) 991-7408 or (813) 558-5976.

TAE KWON DO: The Tampa Bay Sports Commission is looking for volunteers to work during the tae kwon do U.S. Junior Olympic championships July 2-7 at the Tampa Convention Center.

The event will involve 5,000 of the top tae kwon do athletes from age 6-17 from throughout the country. Volunteer duties range from athlete registration and timekeeping to athlete escorts and hosts.

Volunteers will be asked to work five-hour shifts and will receive a T-shirt, meals for morning and evening shifts and parking.

SUMMER CAMPS: The Tampa Prep Summer Program is accepting applications for its various camps. The cost for all camps is $125 per week.

The girls basketball camp will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 25-29. Varsity coach Suzanne Marfise will run the camp.

Joe Fenlon will lead a boys basketball camps for students in grades 6-10 from 1 to 4 p.m. June 25-29.

The Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department will offer a series of camps this summer at Leto High. The week-long camps will feature a different sport each week, and each camp has a limited registration.

The camps will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and are open to kids ages 9-17 except volleyball, which is open for kids 12-17. Each camper must bring a lunch.

The $5 cost per camp will be donated to the scholarship foundation of the Friends of the County Parks. Advanced registration is required.
