PLAYOFF TURNING POINT: Retief Goosen led by one stroke after eight holes, but the margin was five when he walked off No. 10. Goosen birdied two straight holes while Mark Brooks took bogeys at each one.

ERRANT DRIVES: Brooks, one of the most accurate off the tee all week, was in the rough on seven of 14 driving holes.

SPOILS OF VICTORY: Goosen's $900,000 paycheck is nearly as much as his best year on the European PGA Tour. Brooks' $530,000 is more than he has won three of the past four years on the PGA Tour.

FOREIGN SOIL: Goosen became the second international player since 1982 to win. The other was fellow South African Ernie Els, who won in 1994 and '97.

WIRE TO WIRE: Goosen extended the trend of wire-to-wire winners in major tournaments held at Southern Hills, following Tommy Bolt (1958 U.S. Open), Hubert Green (1977 U.S. Open), Raymond Floyd (1982 PGA Championship) and Nick Price (1994 PGA Championship).
