CHICAGO -- The father of Twins and former Rays outfielder Quinton McCracken died after an apparent heart attack at the team's hotel, where he was staying while Minnesota played the Cubs.
Herman McCracken died Sunday at 65, Twins spokesman Sean Harlin said. He was in his room when he lost consciousness. Family members and paramedics could not revive him.
Quinton McCracken was to have started in centerfield and bat eighth Sunday, but he did not play. His father and other relatives had traveled from North Carolina to watch the game.
Quinton McCracken, the Rays' MVP in their inaugural season in 1998, will be allowed to be with his family for as long as he needs.
