Police: Arrested man turns violent

DADE CITY -- Officers Wednesday arrested a 48-year-old man they say kicked and hit them while in custody at the Dade City Police Department.

Mark Franklin Edenfield of 36830 Virginia Ave. was in the department after Officer Jason Armstrong had arrested him on charges of operating a motorcycle without a proper endorsement on his license.

While Edenfield was signing his citation at the department, he started yelling and hit Armstrong with a pen, a report said.

He then kicked another officer who was helping get Edenfield back into the department's holding cell, officers said.

Police placed Edenfield in handcuffs and leg shackles and eventually took him to the Land O'Lakes jail.

He faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Edenfield remained Thursday in lieu of $2,100 bail.

Holiday man accused of striking wife, teen

HOLIDAY -- A Holiday man is facing charges after his wife said he struck her and a 16-year-old boy on Wednesday night, according to Sheriff's Office reports.

Irena Okon said her husband Robert L. Okon, 39, of 1827 Knollwood Drive, intentionally struck her sometime before 9 p.m. The responding deputy reported that he saw a bump on Irena Okon's left cheek, which she said resulted from the dispute. The woman also said her husband had pushed and kicked a 16-year-old boy in the chest, according to the report. The deputy wrote that he saw several large red marks on the boy's chest. Reports did not identify the teenager or his relationship to Robert Okon.

Deputies arrested Robert Okon and charged him with child abuse and simple domestic battery. He was transported to the jail in Land O'Lakes and was being held Thursday night on $1,500 bail.

Price of dog tags to increase July 1

License tags for unneutered dogs in Pasco County soon will cost one-third more so Pasco County Animal Control can continue offering its rebate for owners that get their dogs spayed or neutered, said Manager Denise Hilton.

As of July 1, the county's license fee for dogs that haven't been neutered will increase to $20 from $15.

The fee for neutered dogs and the optional license tags for cats will remain at $5.

Some revenue from animal licensing helps fund the county's $40 dog spay/neuter rebate program for animal owners. Animal Control does not administer these procedures, but pet owners can send in their bills to receive the rebate.

Hilton said the increase, the first in five years in the county, is needed to keep up with the demand for the popular program.

A county ordinance requires pet owners to have current license tags on their dogs at all times. Along with the fee increase for new tags, Animal Control officers will beef up their enforcement on animals without the proper licenses or vaccinations, said officials.
