New bank gathers $1-million in deposits

During its first two weeks of operation, Cornerstone Community Bank's newest office at 6600 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, posted more than $1-million in deposits, according to J. Patrick Allison, vice president and manager of the branch. "We've been aggressive establishing a foundation in the area," said Allison, a former vice president of lending for Raymond James Bank. The 2-year-old community bank is headquartered at 6300 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg.

Designer opens slipcover shop

Angie's Slipcover Designs has opened at 109 49th St. S, St. Petersburg. Before opening a retail store, owner Angie Knowles operated Angie's Design Studio out of her home. Knowles, 45, has a degree in fashion design and patternmaking from Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Wash. She also studied at the Professional Drapery School in Swannanoa, N.C.

Gallery Enormous replaces Fusion

Lisa Lippincott and Kerry Hudson have opened Gallery Enormous at 540 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, the former site of Fusion Gallery. Before opening the business, Lippincott managed an art and craft gallery in New Hope, Pa. She also worked for the Evelyn Cobb Gallery in St. Petersburg and the Nancy Markoe Gallery in St. Pete Beach. Artist Kerry Hudson works with wood, steel and stone, creating sculptures as well as furniture. He has exhibited his work at the Mainsail Arts Festival and the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts.

United Bank promotes four to vice president

United Bank of St. Petersburg has announced the following promotions: Gretchen Bamford, vice president of systems administration; J. Annette Barker, vice president of branch administration; Richard W. Pettit, vice president and accounting manager; and Beth J. Stufflebeam, vice president of commercial account services.

Business owners invited to enterprise workshop

Burt Von Hoff, representative of the state's Office of Tourism, Trade & Economic Development, will present an Enterprise Zone workshop at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. He will cover topics including tax credits and refunds for business owners. The event is sponsored by the St. Petersburg Economic Development Division. Registration is required. Call the city's Economic Development Department at 893-7784.
