© St. Petersburg Times, Dog killed as house burns to the ground BROOKSVILLE -- A Brooksville house burned to the ground in less than seven minutes Saturday afternoon, according to Brooksville Fire Department officials. The occupants of the house at 410 S Main St. were away when the blaze started. Damage was estimated at $35,000. No one was injured in the blaze, but authorities say a dog was killed. The cause is under investigation by the fire marshal. Sinkhole opens behind homeSPRING HILL -- A sinkhole opened in Spring Hill behind a home on Ester Drive off Sunshine Grove Road on Sunday, according to officials at Spring Hill Fire Rescue. No one was injured and no structures had been threatened by the hole, which measured about 10 by 15 feet when it stabilized on Sunday afternoon, they said. Road closed beginning todayBROOKSVILLE -- Emerson Road north of Truck Route 50 will be closed from today through July 16 for the reconstruction of the Truck Route 50/Emerson Road intersection. The intersection itself will remain open. Traffic will be detoured east to U.S. 98/SR 50A. Weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed and the road re-opened on July 16.
