Centre Club

Where: Eighth floor, Urban Centre, Tampa's Westshore area

Average number of customers: 40 for breakfast, 80 for lunch, 60 for dinner

Initiation fee: $1,000 to $1,200

Basic monthly dues*: $79 for residents; $51 for non-residents; members can pay $28 extra for a basic membership to the Tampa Bay Society.**

Dress code: Business casual attire is acceptable, but most men wear a jacket and tie.

Prominent members: George Steinbrenner, Helen Gordon Davis, Carl Lindell Jr., Al Austin, A.L. "Skip" Glass, Mary Smith Conover and Dick Dobkin.

Tampa Club

Where: 41st and 42nd floors, Bank of America Plaza, downtown Tampa

Women and minorities: About 30 percent of members are women; club has about 50 blacks, about 200 Hispanics

Average number of customers: 60 for breakfast, 200 for lunch, 30 for dinner

Basic monthly dues*: $82 for residents, $56 for non-residents; members can pay $27 extra for basic membership in Tampa Bay Society.**

Dress code: Opened casual room two years ago, so members have option on dress.

Prominent members: John Sykes, Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, Helen Gordon Davis, Dick Beard, Mike Hogan, Ron Vaughn, H. Lee Moffitt, Susan Bucklew, Mary Scriven and Lee Arnold.

University Club

Where: 38th floor, Tampa City Center, downtown Tampa

Founded: 1946

Women and minorities: Club officials said overall numbers weren't available, but said in the latest membership drive, 20 percent of the 150 or so new members were women, 10 percent were Hispanics and 3 percent were blacks.

Average number of customers: 40 for breakfast, 150 for lunch. Club serves dinner only for special occasions.

Initiation fee: $1,000 for residents, $750 for non-residents

Basic monthly dues*: $75 for residents, $65 for members under 35 years old; $54 for non-residents

Dress code: Started casual room as option for members last summer, and from June until August, sports coats aren't required in any part of club.

Prominent members: Former Gov. Bob Martinez, Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, Guy King, Jack Butcher, Rhea Law, Frank Morsani, H.L. Culbreath and H. Lee Moffitt.

* Non-resident memberships, designed for people who live outside of Hillsborough County, offer lower dues but reduced privileges.

** Tampa Bay Society membership allows Tampa Club or Centre Club members to use both those clubs and nine area country clubs and health clubs.
