ANCHORAGE -- A boater reported missing in the Gulf of Alaska was found Sunday in good condition.

The Coast Guard had launched a search Saturday for Phil Phillips, 54, of Jacksonville, Fla. Phillips had set out on his 31-foot speed boat Saturday morning for a 240-mile trip from Cordova to Yakutat.

When he failed to call his wife in Jacksonville Saturday evening, she contacted the Coast Guard. Crews searched Saturday night and Sunday by air and on the water. They located Phillips shortly before 3:30 p.m.

"He was holding up on the southeast end of Kayak Island, 60 miles south of Cordova. He said he had weather problems," said Coast Guard Lt. David Arritt.

Arritt said Phillips told the Coast Guard crew he was planning on returning to Cordova when seas calmed.
