SeniorNet taught her new job skillsBy LARRY D. JOHNSON, Section manager, Hillsborough County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program/Working Seniors Program © St. Petersburg Times, published June 27, 2000 Martha Rose retired in 1998 after a career in nursing. Last summer, she approached the Hillsborough County Working Seniors Program, hoping to learn about computers and looking for a job in which to use her people skills. The program referred her to SeniorNet at the University of South Florida for computer training, then helped her get a position at Hilton Reservations Worldwide, where she handles calls from all over the world and assists customers in making hotel reservations. "Martha Rose is an upbeat, positive, determined, goal-oriented employee," said Sandra A. Koch, Hilton's human resources manager. Hilton Reservations Worldwide presented Rose its Commitment to Excellence Award at at a banquet held May 3. The award is based on attendance, availability, adherence to protocol and conversion to sales. Martha Rose says her philosophy is "do the best that I can on what I am doing." © St. Petersburg Times.
