Electrical fire damages house in Tarpon SpringsBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published June 28, 2000 TARPON SPRINGS -- An electrical fire in the attic over a garage Tuesday morning caused $30,000 in damage to a house in the Trentwood Manor subdivision, Tarpon Springs Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Bowman said. Nobody was home at 1709 Stonehaven Way when the fire started at about 7:44 a.m. The fire was contained mostly in the attic over the garage, which is attached to the house, Bowman said. Tarpon tags will be available for sale FridayCLEARWATER -- Pinellas County Tax Collector W. Fred Petty has announced that tarpon tags will go on sale Friday instead of the usual July 1. The change is in time for the numerous tarpon fishing tournaments this weekend. Although the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission agreed to allow state tax collector offices to sell the tags a day early this year, they may not be used until Saturday, Petty said. Clearwater High Class of 1975 plans reunionThe Clearwater High School Class of 1975 will have its 25th reunion July 14-16 at the Belleview Biltmore Resort & Spa. Events include a Friday night cocktail party and Saturday morning golf and tennis tournaments. Saturday night festivities kick off with happy hour, followed by dinner and a dance, with live music by Pursuit. The reunion will conclude with a beach party at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Palm Pavilion. New fitness program for Parkinson's patientsCLEARWATER -- The Barrett Rehabilitation Center at Morton Plant Hospital is introducing a fitness and wellness program designed especially for patients with Parkinson's disease. The weekly one-hour classes will combine speech, occupational and physical therapy. The focus will be on slowing the progression of the debilitating disease through specially designed exercises. Also, an aquatic exercise class for Parkinson's patients is also offered weekly. For information, call (727) 462-7000. Cyclists can now get bus permits at courthouseCLEARWATER -- Bicyclists can obtain PSTA "Bikes on Buses" permits at the Pinellas County Courthouse, 315 Court St., Clearwater. Applicants can sign up at the information desk in the courthouse lobby between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants are required to watch a short video on the program and demonstrate their ability to mount and dismount their bikes on a PSTA bus bike rack. There is a $2 application fee. The process takes 15 to 20 minutes. When using the PSTA's bus bike racks, bicyclists will be required to show their ID card. For more information, call (727) 464-4600. Legislator to speak at America Today meetingCLEARWATER -- State Rep. Larry Crow, R-Palm Harbor, will discuss the events of the last legislative session at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the America Today discussion group meeting. Innisbrook to host annual men's golf championshipPALM HARBOR -- Entry forms are available for the eighth annual Innisbrook Men's Amateur Golf Championship set for July 1-3. The tournament is open to players with handicaps of 10 or less. It will be played on three courses: Eagle's Watch, Island and Copperhead. Players will be grouped in flights playing in threesomes with morning starting times. Wyatt Myer of Avila Country Club is the defending champion.
