All in the family

The Swinging Johnsons are a Tampa Bay area favorite for good reason. Each Johnson -- yes, like the Ramones, all the guys in the band use the same surname -- adds a special touch to the band's unusual blend of jazz, sassy swing and blues. The sound is peppy and danceable. Good-time music. Clinton Johnson's slide trombone adds distinction, as does Moe Johnson's bluesy growl. But careful, one Johnson gig can run the gamut from Steely Dan-type grooving to nasty, nasty funk. Catch the band 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday at Famous Cigars, 25032 U.S. 19 N, Clearwater. (727) 796-2442.
