TAMPA -- Family law attorney Catherine Real withdrew Wednesday from the race for Hillsborough County state attorney.

Real, 53, a Democrat, had hinted for months that she would drop out, especially after two other candidates entered the race.

She had said all along that she only entered the race to make sure incumbent State Attorney Harry Lee Coe had some competition.

Earlier this year, Tampa attorneys Mark Ober and Bill Jennings, both Republicans, decided to run.

"I became involved in the race to encourage competition for the position," she said in a press release Wednesday. "With Mark Ober, Bill Jennings and Harry Lee Coe in the race, there will be an extensive exchange of views."

Jennings and Ober will face off during the Sept. 5 primary. Real's withdrawal means Coe will go uncontested in the primary, unless another Democrat comes forward before the July 21 deadline.
