Swim, water aerobics, yoga classes offered

INVERNESS -- The city's Department of Parks and Recreation offers the following classes. Registration is necessary. Classes are in the recreation building of Whispering Pines Park unless otherwise noted. For information or to register, call 726-3913 or register at the park administration office. The office is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

American Red Cross Swim Lessons: Sessions available: July 2 to 13; and July 16 to 27. All classes run Monday through Thursday at the Park Pool.

Water Aerobics: Separate sessions, four or two weeks, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 23 to Aug. 17; Aug. 20 to Sept. 14 (no class Sept. 3); and Sept. 17 to Oct. 12 in the outside pool. For information, call the pool office at 726-1995. Fee: $25 for four weeks, or $15 for two weeks.

Deep Water Aerobics: In the outside pool, class is conducted in deeper water which increases resistance. Participants are encouraged to bring noodles, water jugs, water flotation belt or water dumb bells. Classes will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are set up in four- or two-week sessions.

The four-week sessions are: July 23-Aug. 17, Aug. 20-Sept. 14 (no class Sept. 3) and Sept. 17-Oct. 12 (weather permitting). Cost is $25.

The two-week sessions: July 9-20, July 23-Aug. 4, Aug. 6-17, Aug. 20-31, Sept. 4-14 (no class on Sept. 3), Sept. 17-28, Oct. 1-12 (weather permitting). Cost is $15.

Hatha Yoga Course: Two separate six week courses, ages 13 and older, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays beginning July 26 with additional classes beginning on Aug. 30, Oct. 4, Nov. 8 and Dec. 6; and from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays beginning July 2 with additional classes beginning on Aug. 6, Sept. 10, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19. Certified instructor: Christine Kozlik. Bring a large towel and a pillow, wear comfortable, stretch, cotton clothing. Fee: $25 per course.
