Bicycle rodeo offers chance to hone skills
SEMINOLE -- A bicycle rodeo will offer children a riding skills course and a safety check station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 24 at Bardmoor Elementary, 8900 Greenbriar Road. Participants will proceed through five various stations. The free event is sponsored by the Sheriff's Office. Call 582-5603.
LARGO -- You don't have to have a green thumb to volunteer at the Florida Botanical Gardens, operated by the Pinellas County Cooperative Extension Service at 12175 125th St. N. There are several volunteer positions open, including bulk mail assistants, clerical workers, computer experts, a receptionist and mail room clerk. Training is provided. Available shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact Jean Field at 582-2577.
SEMINOLE -- As a part of the Wonderful Wednesdays series for youngsters in grades K-5 at the Seminole Community Library, several events are planned for July, all beginning at 2 p.m.:
July 11: Representatives of the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary will explain rescues and rehabilitation of wild birds.
July 18: a theatrical performance by members of the Museum of Science and Industry.
July 25: Lowry Park Zoo officials will explain the importance of tropical rainforests and animals that live there. For information, call 397-2112.
LARGO -- Members of the USS Ottawa will stage a Civil War re-enactment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at Heritage Village, 11909 125th St. N (at the corner of 125th Street and Walsingham Road). For information, call 582-2123.
Neighborhood Notebook is a bulletin board of items and summaries of what the neighborhood associations and other neighborhood groups are up to. It runs on Sundays.
