Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582 Fourth of July Celebration, 1 p.m., 14494 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. There will be games, as well as picnic foods available at a price. Call 596-2582 for information.

High Point Community July 4th Parade, 8 a.m., off Cortez Blvd., west of Mariner Boulevard. The line up of parade participants will begin at 7:15 a.m. Following a flag raising ceremony in front of the community center, 12249 Club House Road, there will be refreshments, entertainment, arts and crafts and a raffle. Machine Gun Shoot-Out, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Hernando Sportsman's Club, off U.S. 19 (about 9.5 miles north of Cortez Boulevard), Brooksville. The event will feature three vehicles being destroyed, and live cannon fire on assorted targets. Hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas and other refreshments will be available. The shooting ranges will also be open. Admission is $1; children under age 16 will be admitted free with an adult. For information, call 597-9931.

Sixth annual Fourth of July free car wash for veterans, Spiffy Car Wash, 12125 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Starting at 7:50 a.m. with a flag raising by the Disabled American Veterans Post 67. Local business representatives, dignitaries and politicians will be washing cars for veterans. Among some of the volunteers will be State Sen. Ginny Brown-Waite and State Rep. Nancy Argenziano, Hernando County Commissioners, Hernando County Judge Peyton Hyslop, Sheriff Richard Nugent, and more. Entertainment will include music by Peg and Friends. All veterans can receive free car washes. Also, those who donate blood on July 4 will receive a free car wash. For details, or to volunteer at the event, call 596-3409.

VFW Post 10209 and Ladies Auxiliary's Fourth of July celebration, 1 to 6 p.m., 15166 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. Music will be provided by Richie G. and Friends, as well as Sweet Adelines. Food will be available from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Food tickets are $5 per plate. For information, call the post at 796-0398.

Veterans of Foreign Wars, David G. Snyder Memorial Post 8681, 18940 Drayton St. (at County Line Road), Shady Hills. A flag raising will be at 11 a.m., with a picnic following at noon. Hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings will be available. Call (727) 856-1860.

Polish American Social Club's Fourth of July picnic, 7615 New Jersey Ave., Hudson. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. There will be a raffle, games and more. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., which includes Polish sausage sandwich, sloppy joe, dessert, coffee, tea and other refreshments. Tickets are $5.
