Uncle Sam Jam 2001 set for July 7 in Inverness
INVERNESS -- The New Inverness Olde Towne Association Inc. presents the second-annual Courthouse Square's Uncle Sam Jam 2001 Celebration in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibit "Yesterday's Tomorrows" from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 7 in the square, downtown Inverness. Events include: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. the Smithsonian exhibit on display; after 3 p.m. vendors set up and displays ready; 5 p.m. bicycle parade; from 5 to 7 p.m. live remote by "Fun Oldies" 102.7 FM; from 6:30 to 7 p.m. patriotic evening ceremony presented by Mayor Joyce Rogers and from 7 to 10 p.m. "Dancing in the Street" to DJ music.
The Edward W. Penno VFW Post will have a three-day observance of Independence Day with an open house from noon to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 10199 N Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs. There will be a picnic to include hot dogs, sausages, hamburgers, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The public is invited.
