Northeast wins two to earn baseball title

In 9-10 baseball for District 5, Seminole knocked Northeast into the loser's bracket early. So when Northeast reached the final, it had to beat Seminole twice.

Northeast won Friday's first game 9-4. Saturday, Northeast was powered by the pitching of Andrew Luker and Richard Bunnell along with key hits from Zander Devlin, Ryan Devlin, Ryan McDonald and Jordan Arnold as it won 5-3. In 9-10 softball, Cross Bayou went undefeated and won the title by beating Seminole 11-3 Saturday. Allison Shirley had six strikeouts in the win.

Also in District 5, Northeast defeated Pinellas Park American 5-3 in majors Monday. Matt Donnantuoni eared the win, and Austin Gaines homered.

Also in majors, Seminole defeated Southwest 5-0. Strong pitching by Joey Civillo, Shane Maxemo and Jennings George and a Civillo two-run home run lifted Seminole.

In District 12, the Tarpon Springs 9-10 baseball team defeated Clearwater National 24-2 Saturday. Tony Pikos got the win, Josiah Fisk hit a two-run home run and Tyler David went 4-for-4.

The 9-10 softball tournament featured a no-hitter Saturday by Oldsmar's Tabitha Bittle in a 2-0 win over East Lake. In major baseball, Safety Harbor National won its first game of pool play Saturday 6-0 over Largo American. Danta Roberts threw a complete game. Jeff Antinella, Greg Swift and Terrence Thomas went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Monday, Clearwater American upset favored Safety Harbor American 10-9 behind Nathan Kmet's home run and four hits. In major softball, Safety Harbor defeated West Pasco 9-1 behind the pitching of Ashley Sismilich.

Largo American won its first junior baseball game Sunday 8-5 over Clearwater National in 11 innings. Mike Werner pitched 10 innings for the win.

Monday, Palm Harbor American defeated Oldsmar 8-1 as Cory Glass got the win and Kyle Mills had two doubles and two RBI.

In senior baseball, Largo beat Hudson 11-3 behind the hitting of Cory Birge, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a home run.
