Kenneth City police, fire costs may rise

KENNETH CITY -- The coming year's budget is far from complete, but it appears town residents may be paying more for police and fire protection.
Kenneth City council members will discuss those preliminary figures at a 7:30 p.m. workshop Tuesday in the Community Hall, 4600 58th St. N.
The latest figures show that police Chief Jim Ernst is asking for $874,106 for the 2001-02 budget year -- a 4.5 percent increase over this year's budget.
Similarly, the Lealman Fire District, which provides fire and emergency medical services for Kenneth City, also is scheduled to receive 4.5 percent more.
Those figures, and others, such as a proposed $150,000 for improvements to the town's parks, could change before the budget is finalized later this summer.
Town officials have not yet received projected revenue figures from the state or expected expenses from all town departments.
