© St. Petersburg Times, Aircraft association offers pilot ground schoolThe Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 47 will host an 11-week private pilot ground school course beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Windjammer Club at the Coast Guard, 600 Eighth Ave. SE, St. Petersburg. The class will provide information to people interested in taking the FAA's private pilot exam, and will focus on topics such as airplane systems and instruments, aerodynamic principals, navigation, communication, flight environment and flight plans. The course will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and will run through Sept. 20. The class is free to EAA members, who may enroll in both the local chapter and the national organization for $55, $23 for students younger than 19, or $50 for a family membership. Police department will hold auction SaturdayMore than 20 vehicles, a boat, bicycles and audio components will be auctioned Saturday by the St. Petersburg Police Department. Registration for the auction will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will be held at 1300 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Bicycles will be auctioned first at 8 a.m. Cash, money orders, cashier's checks and local area checks with proper identification are acceptable for items less than $500. Larger ticket items include -- but are not limited to -- a 1989 Mercedes, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, and a 21-foot Bayliner boat. Viewing of these items will begin at 10 a.m. The auction for larger items is expected to begin at 11 a.m. Minimum bids for each item may be announced on auction day. Payment for larger items will require a minimum deposit of $250, which may be made in cash or by cashier's check, money order or personal check with proper identification. Alzheimer's Association offers help for teensThe Tampa Bay Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will host an informative meeting regarding their newly formed teen support group from 4-5:30 p.m. July 11 at the Pinellas Park Public Library, 7770 52nd St. N. Equality Florida to hold family picnic SundayEquality Florida will hold a picnic for Tampa Bay's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community and their families from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Fort DeSoto Park, North Beach Shelter 1. The "Family Values Picnic" features a day filled with food, games and a nature walk and kayak paddle through the park. $5 includes lunch. Call 527-8589. Aluminum can recycling helps build homesHabitat for Humanity International has teamed up with the Aluminum Association to help needy families. Aluminum Cans Build Habitat for Humanity Homes raises money to build homes through aluminum can recycling. Five local recycling centers are located throughout Pinellas County. The list of recycling sites can be obtained by calling the Pinellas Habitat for Humanity office at 894-1522. Individual, family, church, club and company participation is encouraged. Volunteers also are needed to manage Aluminum Cans Build Habitat for Humanity Homes day-to-day operations. Boys and Girls Clubs seek car, boat donationsThe Boys and Girls Clubs of Florida are seeking donations of unwanted, intact cars or boats, complete with the appropriate certificate of title, to help fund their many youth programs. Donated cars and boats will be sold, with proceeds to benefit local club chapters. The donation is tax deductible. The club will pick up donations and will arrange for free towing when necessary. DivorceCare schedules support group meetingsCLEARWATER -- DivorceCare seminars and support group meetings are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Clearwater First Church of the Nazarene, 1875 Nursery Road, Clearwater. Each session features a videotape, followed by a support group meeting. Topics to be covered include facing anger, depression, loneliness, financial survival, child care, new relationships and more. Housing services offer helpCLEARWATER -- Funds for housing rehabilitation and down payment assistance is available through the Clearwater Neighborhood Housing Services Inc.
