Letters to the Editors'Webb's City' should come back for winter
© St. Petersburg Times, published July 5, 2000 We just attended the matinee performance of Webb's City: The Musical. What a refreshing, entertaining and nostalgic production. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had at Mahaffey Theater. It "ain't fair" that all my friends who are up North for the summer had to miss it. Likewise, I wanted to phone all my friends here and tell them, "Don't miss the Webb's City show." But it was only running one more day. Let's encourage the production company to run the show again this winter. I, for one, will go see it again. We senior citizens are all too quick sometimes to give a standing ovation, but this troupe well deserved theirs. Hats off to writer/director Bill Leavengood, musical director Lee Ahlin and to Steve "Doc Webb" Wilkerson.
Science Center stimulates young mindsRe: Local lawns lead to Discover, June 25. The last paragraph in the inspiring article about David Nelms' childhood in St. Petersburg mentioned the impact in his memory of writing programs at a local science center on a donated mainframe computer in the 1970s. That is our Science Center at 22nd Avenue N, the best-kept secret in town in spite of our attempts to broadcast our accomplishments to the community. We send many children on the right road of education by stimulating their love of learning.
