Amateur skateboarders and bicycle stunt riders can see how their moves compare to the professionals' Saturday and Sunday at the Gravity Games Airwalk Amateur Challenge.
As many as 150 skateboarders and 60 bike riders will be able to compete for a spot in the 2001 Gravity Games, to be held in September in Providence, R.I., and televised on NBC. Judging in the skateboard competition will be based on a 45-second run; bike riders will get 60 seconds to perform.
The event also will include music, food, product demonstrations and autograph sessions by members of the Airwalk professional team.
The registration fee for competitors is $30, but the event is free for spectators. On-site registration begins from 7-9 p.m. Friday. The exhibition takes place from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Central Skatepark, 6140 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater.

Puppet pros convene in Tampa
But three events are open to the public for little or no money
Scarfone/Hartley Galleries at the University of Tampa hosts an international array of puppets in this exhibition of "mechanical marvels, monsters and magicians." The exhibit opens Monday and runs through July 13. The galleries are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are at 401 W Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. (813) 253-6217.
The two public puppet performances start with Super Kangaroo by Australian master shadow puppeteer Richard Bradshaw, considered by Jim Henson to be one of the world's best puppeteers. The show is at 10:30 a.m. Tue. at Falk Theatre, 428 W Kennedy Blvd. (across from UT), Tampa. Admission is $4.
A hand-puppet production of Puss in Boots by the award-winning Perry Alley Theatre will be at 2 p.m. July 14 at Tampa Theatre, 711 N Franklin St. Admission is $3 adult, $2 children. (813) 932-9252.
