Out-of-towners lead tourney

CRYSTAL RIVER -- Wally Kuchar and Rick Sargent combined for a 14-under par 58, good for a one-shot lead after the opening round of the fifth annual North Florida PGA Senior-Junior Championship at Plantation Inn and Golf Resort.

Playing a scramble format, Kuchar, of Windermere, and Sargent, of Kissimmee, made three eagles and a birdie on the course's four par-5s and added seven birdies on the 6,472-yard course.

One shot back in the 35-team field are Bill Rinaldo of Dade City and Dave Bishop of Lakeland. The duo made five consecutive birdies at one point and eagled both par-5s on the back nine.

Al Kelley of Eustis and Chris Moore of Ormond Beach are tied for third with Vito Saputo of Zephyrhills and Dave Creighton of Kissimmee. Both teams shot 61.

Today's final round begins at 8 a.m.
