Family suing over rezoningBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published July 8, 2000 A family is suing the Hernando County Commission, saying board members were wrong to change the zoning of a parcel of land on Old Cobb Road from commercial/agricultural to industrial. Frank A. McClung Jr. is the son of the former owner of the land, and he is trying to reclaim the estate after losing it following his mother's death. Flagstone Pavers Inc., a Tampa-based company that makes decorative pavers, plans to build a 22,500-square-foot production plant on the site. The firm next will seek permits from the Southwest Florida Water Management District and plans to be open for business by January, president Geoff Bond said. The county approved the rezoning 4-1 in June, despite protests from the McClungs, who in their lawsuit say the county is practicing "leapfrog development" and not following its comprehensive plan. © St. Petersburg Times.
