City to celebrate library milestone
By JULIANNE WU © St. Petersburg Times, published July 8, 2000 SEMINOLE -- Excitement is building for Wednesday's 40th anniversary party for Seminole Community Library. During the day, there will be receptions for seniors from 10 a.m. to noon, for children from noon to 3 p.m. and for other library patrons from 3 to 5 p.m. Throughout the day there will be a historical slide presentation, a video and refreshments. For the kids, there will be lots of surprises, said Michael Bryan, library director. For one, there will be face painting and several types of games, one of which will be the library's version of the popular television show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The library's version is called Who Wants to be a Reader Leader? Children will be able to sign up in the next few days or at the event on Wednesday. Eight youngsters will be selected for each round, with one child selected to sit in the "hot seat." "We will have a different game for three levels according to the kids' ages," Bryan said. "Questions will be geared toward that age group and the prizes will be gift certificates with which to purchase books." The levels will be as follows: one for kindergarten through second-graders; another for third- through fifth-graders and the last for middle school youngsters, in grades sixth through eighth. For more information on the game or any of the other festivities, visit the library, 9199 113th St. N, or call 397-2112. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
