RACES REMAINING: 11.
SO FAR: The series' contention that it has better drivers than Indy Racing received a boost when Juan Montoya dominated the rivals' Indianapolis 500. Montoya and Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Jimmy Vasser were the first CART drivers in the 500 since 1995. ... Moreno won Sunday at Cleveland, his first victory in 70 CART races. ... Roger Penske, whose team has struggled in recent years, finally got his 100th victory as a CART owner, May 27 at Nazareth, Pa., with Gil de Ferran driving. ... Andrew Craig was forced out as president and CEO. Bobby Rahal, a former Indy 500 champion, was named the interim replacement. ... Dario Franchitti, runner-up in the points race last season, has struggled. He has yet to win a race. ... CART announced it is dropping Homestead-Miami Speedway from its schedule next season.
FORMULA ON
POINTS LEADER: Michael Schumacher
RACES REMAINING: 8.
SO FAR: The series continues to be a McLaren vs. Ferrari battle, with Ferrari's Schumacher leading the points. He won the first three races, moving within one of tying Ayrton Senna for second on the career list. Senna won 41 times. McLaren's David Coulthard is second in the points race, 12 points back. ... Perhaps the biggest disappointment has been Jaguar. The team formerly known as Stewart won a race and collected 36 points last year but has three points to show for its effort this season. ... The series' return to the United States after an eight-year absence has been well-received; reserved tickets for the Sept. 24 race at Indianapolis are sold out. General admission tickets remain. Attendance of more than 200,000 is expected.
INDY RACIN
POINTS LEADER: Eddie Cheever
RACES REMAINING: 3.
SO FAR: The series' marquee event, the Indianapolis 500, got a boost from the presence of CART's Chip Ganassi Racing. ... Defending series champion Greg Ray has won three poles, including Indianapolis, but ranks 19th in the standings with no victories. ... Sarah Fisher, 19, driving the circuit full time, ranks 23rd in the standings. She and Lyn St. James started at Indianapolis, the first time two women were in the field. They were knocked out of the race in the same accident. ... Sam Schmidt was paralyzed after an accident while testing for the season's first event at Walt Disney World Speedway. ... Walt Disney World was left off next season's schedule because dates the series was interested in did not match hotel availability. But the series announced it will run at Homestead-Miami Speedway in March.

The organization has a new long-term television deal with ESPN and ESPN2. ... Two venues, Houston Raceway Park and Texas Motorplex, will lose one of their two events next year. ... At Columbus, Ohio, Angelle Seeling scored her 13th victory, moving to five away from Shirley Muldowney's NHRA female record.
