World Woods courses honored by magazine
By BRANT JAMES © St. Petersburg Times, published July 9, 2000 World Woods' Pine Barrens course was named the top daily fee course in the country by Golf & Travel magazine in a recent issue. It's companion course, Rolling Oaks, was rated No. 10. The course was evaluated on architectural points by the golf- and travel-oriented sister publication of Golfweek. Pine Barrens was ranked the ninth-best "Upscale Daily Fee Courses in the U.S.A." by Golf Digest in 1996-1997. HOLE-IN-ONE: Don Brown hit a hole-in-one on the ninth hole at Brooksville Golf & Country Club on June 31. Beverly Pickens aced the fifth hole on June 24. SPORTS CAMP: Twenty-two children participated in the first of two summer camps at GlenLakes last week, head professional Shay Smart said. Kids played golf and tennis and splashed in the pool during the four-day camp. "I think the kids got a pretty good experience out of it," he said. Another session is scheduled for July 25-28. The camp costs $125 and includes one hour of golf instruction, one hour of tennis instruction and an hour of swimming per day. Call Joey Ludeman at (352) 597-1118 for information. SCRAMBLE: Oak Hills Golf Course in Spring Hill will host scrambles at 2 p.m. every Friday beginning July 14. Cost is $20 ($8 for entry, $10 for greens fees and $2 for team skins). The scrambles are limited to the first 52 entrants. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
