Barbi's Web site: Down, but not out

Barbie the doll hasn't defeated Barbi Craig yet, but technology took a toll on the Gulfport woman.

Craig's Web site (www.barbiis.com) is down for now, but not because Mattel threatened her with legal action in a March letter for infringing on its trademark for the famous doll.

Rather, the site that featured doll cartoon characters in different costumes got too much attention from others, who linked to the art on the site and overburdened Craig's server. So Craig took the site down.

Craig plans to redo the site and will keep the address despite Mattel's objections that she used the phonetic equivalent of the doll's name. She also doesn't sound worried.

Since the March 12 letter, "I haven't heard a word from them," Craig said.
