Pinecrest Funeral Chapels has announced that it was recognized by the Independent Funeral Directors of Florida "for having served the citizens of Florida with dedication and commitment for two generations." The award was presented to Doug and Dennie McCaul and their daughter, Denise McCaul-Akron, last month at the Independent Funeral Directors of Florida awards luncheon. In accepting the award, Doug McCaul said, "Pinecrest Funeral Chapels has been there for our neighbors continuously since 1983. This is one more affirmation that we will remain family owned from generation to generation."

Merrill Lynch has announced that Carol Okula has joined the firm as a financial adviser serving the Spring Hill and Brooksville communities. Okula comes to Merrill Lynch with 20 years banking experience in Hernando County.

A free Community Homebuyers and Credit Rebuilding Workshop is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Park, 895 Kennedy Blvd., Brooksville. The workshop provides information about credit rebuilding, down payments and closing cost assistance for people with low to moderate incomes. Participants who attend for seven hours will receive a certificate of achievement that may be used to apply for special financial assistance programs and discounts. The event is sponsored by the Hernando County Housing Authority and conducted by Consumer Credit Counseling Service, a non-profit agency that provides individual financial housing counseling and education programs. Edward Jones investment representative Barbara Adams is hosting a broadcast for individual investors at 7 p.m. July 17 at the Edward Jones' office at 13121 Spring Hill Drive. The Service Corps of Retired Executives is presenting a two-hour seminar for those seeking business loans to either start up a new business or expand an existing one. The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Huntington Bank Conference Center, 6128 U.S 19, New Port Richey. The seminar fee is $10.
