© St. Petersburg Times, Man accused of abuse in attack with batPORT RICHEY -- An argument at a Port Richey home on Saturday ended with a man beating a 16-year-old boy with an aluminum baseball bat, authorities said. Martin L. Vermillion, 46, of 7404 Ashwood Drive, was charged with aggravated child abuse after he hit the teenager on the head and left calf with the bat about 6 p.m., according to Pasco Sheriff's Office reports. Vermillion also grabbed the boy with both hands around his neck, leaving bruises, reports said. After deputies arrested Vermillion on Sunday afternoon, he admitted to wrestling and hitting the boy, reports state. He was taken to the county jail in Land O'Lakes but a judge ordered him released on his own recognizance on Monday. Deputies did not release the boy's name or the address where the incident occurred. The reports did not say what injuries the boy suffered from the bat. Man pushed pregnant girlfriend, reports sayBAYONET POINT -- A New Port Richey man was arrested early Monday morning after, deputies said, he pushed his pregnant live-in girlfriend at a Bayonet Point home. Sheriff's Office reports state that William Michael Rock, 26, of 7030 Park Drive, grabbed and pushed his girlfriend against the bedroom wall Sunday morning at 12701 Stonehouse Loop, Bayonet Point. The woman, who was not named in reports, said she tried to get away but was again and pinned against the wall. The woman is five months pregnant. Rock said he knew she was pregnant, and he was intoxicated during the incident. Deputies arrested him in Hudson on Monday morning and took him to the Land O'Lakes jail. He was charged with domestic aggravated battery and was being held Monday on $5,000 bail. Odessa man accused of lewd act on girlNEW PORT RICHEY -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a 38-year-old man Thursday who admitted to improperly touching the genitals of a 12-year-old girl. Deputies said Douglas Stewart of 14527 Sassandra Drive in Odessa had no prior criminal history and cooperated with authorities. The report said the incident happened in May somewhere in Odessa. The girl was not named because of her age and the nature of the crime. Stewart was charged with performing a lewd and lascivious act on a minor. He was taken to Land O'Lakes jail, where he remained Monday in lieu of $10,000 bail. Holiday businesses are burglarizedHOLIDAY -- A string of business burglaries occurred in Holiday on Saturday night but little appeared to be missing, according to Pasco Sheriff's Office reports. The burglars broke into five neighboring businesses on Mile Stretch Drive sometime about 9 p.m. The burglars entered the businesses by breaking the front windows, reports said. Once inside, they opened several drawers and rummaged through paperwork. Nothing seemed to be missing from most of the businesses, but reports state that two hammers were used to open the cash register at Laura's Flowers and Gifts at 4750 Mile Stretch Drive. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The manager of Laura's Flowers reported the burglaries when she arrived at work at 9 a.m. Sunday. The other businesses hit were Southern Lights Inc., Shear Magic Salon, Look at Me Studios and Stewart's Air. No arrests have been made.
