Two teams remain in winner's bracketBy KEVIN KELLY © St. Petersburg Times, published July 11, 2000 Two of West Pasco's all-star softball teams remain in the District 12 winner's bracket after first-round games Saturday at Fisher Field in Dunedin. With the help of a two-run double by Jennifer Miskell that gave her team the lead, West Pasco little league beat East Lake 9-5 and plays Palm Harbor American at 6 p.m., Wednesday in Dunedin. "All-around the girls played extremely well," manager Karen Staggs said. Pitcher Kaydee Donovan threw a complete game and struck out five. Rachel Staggs scored West Pasco's first run after reaching on a bunt. She then stole second, third and home. SENIOR LEAGUE: Infielder Brittnee Williamson, outfielder Erin Hurka and infielder Melanie Boyer all helped West Pasco beat East Lake 4-2. All three players went 2-for-3. Williamson had a double and Hurka drove in three runs. Pitcher Kim Deeb threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. The team played Palm Harbor on Monday. JUNIOR LEAGUE: Safety Harbor beat West Pasco 14-4, meaning manager Ralph Farmer's squad must play from the loser's bracket. West Pasco allowed six runs in the first inning against Safety Harbor and made eight errors in the game. West Pasco plays the winner of Monday's game between Countryside and Palm Harbor today at 8 p.m. "Hopefully everybody will be ready to play," Farmer said. 9-10 YEAR OLDS: West Pasco's youngest all-star team lost 13-2 to Safety Harbor. Manager Janet Maxey's team managed one hit, and plays Tarpon Springs at 7 p.m. today at Fisher Field. "We can still come through the loser's bracket and come back and win," Maxey said.
