GOLF: The 2001 Summer Golf Series will benefit patient services programs.

Tournaments will be a two-person scramble format at Countryway Golf Club, 11111 Waters Ave., Tampa. Entry fee includes lunch, drinks, prizes and awards. Tournaments are scheduled for today Aug. 9 and Sept. 13.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $40 per person. Hole sponsorships are available for $125 for the series.

The Tampa YMCA Urban Junior Golf First Tee program is looking for volunteers. High school students, who must be at least 16, can credit their volunteer hours toward service requirements.

The volunteers will assist in working camps and tournaments. Camps will be held at four locations: Terrace Hill Golf Club, Rogers Park Golf Course, Heritage Harbor and MacDill Air Force Base Golf Courses.

First Tee of Tampa Bay is offering a free camp for 20 minority girls ages 8-12.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through July 19 at Terrace Hill Golf Club.

The camp includes equipment use, professional instruction, lunch, on-course play and a life skills curriculum.

The Terrace Hill Golf Club is located on Busch Boulevard in Temple Terrace.

CAMPS: The Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department will offer a series of camps this summer at Leto High.

The week-long camps will feature a different sport each week, and each camp has a limited registration.

The camps will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and are open to kids ages 9-17.

Each camper must bring a lunch.

The $5 cost per camp will be donated to the scholarship foundation of the Friends of the County Parks. Advanced registration is required.

The camp schedule is: July 16 -- soccer and July 23 -- tennis.

SOCCER: MLS Camps, the official camp of Major League Soccer, will have one more five-day camps in Pinellas County.

It is from 6 to 9 p.m. July 30-Aug. 3 at St. Petersburg Junior College, Clearwater campus. It costs $105 per participant ages 6 to 18. For information, call Allan Beaver at (727) 536-9443.

Participants will receive an individual player evaluation, Lego gift, soccer ball, T-shirt and companion ticket to an MLS game. Parents and coaches can attend a free coaching clinic during the week.

FOOTBALL: Brandon High will hold an organizational meeting for the upcoming season.

All varsity and junior varsity players and parents should meet in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. July 19. Topics to be covered include physicals, athletic applications, important dates and the booster club.

MISCELLANEOUS: Riverview High will hold a fall sports information meeting at 7:30 p.m. July 30 in the auditorium, immediately following the ninth-grade orientation.

Fall sports coaches will be available to answer questions, and paperwork will be available. Tryouts and practices for all fall sports begin Aug. 6. For more information, call 671-5045.
