Autopsy to be performed on body found in ditch
TAMPA -- An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death of a man whose body was discovered Wednesday morning in a ditch on the north side of W Hillsborough Avenue.
Police spokesman Joe Durkin said the man was a white male about 40 years old. There were no visible injuries, he said.
The body was discovered about 8 a.m. by a passing motorist.
CITRUS PARK -- A tree will be planted in Citrus Park today in honor of slain Tampa police Officer Lois Marrero, who was killed last week by a bank robbery suspect.
The tree will be planted during a ceremony at 2 p.m. near the Little Red School House, 7700 Gunn Highway.
Marrero lived with her companion of 10 years, Mickie Mashburn, in the Citrus Park community of Fawn Ridge.
TAMPA -- A Midway Airlines Fokker 100 had an engine failure on departure from Tampa International Airport on Wednesday afternoon and returned to the field safely with 75 people aboard. There were no injuries.
The twin-engine jetliner, Flight 7, en route to Boston and then to Raleigh-Durham, N.C., took off at 3:10 p.m. The crew later told TIA operations that one engine quit on takeoff.
The crew asked permission to return to the airport and landed at 3:37 p.m. Passengers were put aboard other flights.
