LARGO -- The developers interested in purchasing the old City Hall will present their plans and answer questions Monday evening at a public forum hosted by the Downtown Largo Main Street Association. The forum will be at the city training center, 201 Highland Ave., at 6 p.m. The developer, Simpson Housing Ltd. Partnership, has proposed transforming the 8-acre site into a multipurpose area with 144 apartments, 26 three-story townhomes, an 11,500-square-foot restaurant and 12,500 square feet of retail space. The development would be known as Kensington Park. For further information, call the Downtown Largo Main Street Association at 518-8442.

Man charged with burglary, sexual battery in High Point

LARGO -- A man was arrested and charged with sexual battery and burglary early Thursday, after authorities said he forced himself into the home of a High Point woman and beat and raped her. Tyrone McAffee, 26, was arrested and charged, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Cal Dennie. Deputies investigating complaints of a prowler in the area about 5 a.m. Thursday heard the woman scream. The intruder fled through a rear window in the woman's home before a deputy could catch him, Dennie said. McAffee ran into other deputies patrolling the neighborhood, tussled with one of them and said he had a knife, before he was taken into custody, Dennie said. There was no address available for McAffee on Friday. According to authorities, he has an extensive criminal record that includes grand theft, drug possession, possession of illegal firearms and sexual battery in 1991. McAffee was being held without bail on Friday in the Pinellas County Jail.
