ST. PETERSBURG -- A portion of 42nd Street S will remain closed indefinitely while repairs are made to a 30-inch sewer pipe that collapsed this week.
The collapse occurred beneath 42nd Street between 18th and 19th avenues S. The pipe, 15 feet below the street level, gave way sometime late in the week and the street sunk.
Wastewater is being contained in the hole, and some is still running through the pipe to the treatment plant. Patti Anderson of St. Petersburg Public Utilities said she did not know when the repairs would be complete.
