WEDNESDAY

FREE FILMS: The Gulf Beaches Public Library, 200 Municipal Drive in Madeira Beach, will show two films -- French Canadian Journeys and Along the Waterways -- beginning at 2 p.m. Call 391-2828.

NATURE WALK: Learn about habitats and wildlife while watching Mother Nature in action from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Boyd Hill Nature Park, 1101 Country Club Way S, St. Petersburg. Take a leisurely walk through the park while a ranger teaches about the flora and fauna, both native and exotic. Free. Call 893-7326.

FRIDAY

CLASSICAL KIDS: The Pinellas Symphony's summer music camp participants will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. at the Palladium Theater, 253 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Free. Call 822-3590.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY: The Amvets Post 698, 5864 Park Blvd. in Pinellas Park, will have a benefit party from 8 p.m. to midnight. Live music provided by Terry Martin, buffet and prize drawings. Proceeds will be used for a Christmas party for needy children. Admission free. Call 548-0698.

LEFT ALLEMANDERS DANCE: A square dance with Gary Brown calling is planned for 7:30 p.m. in the Largo Community Center at 65 4th St. NW, Largo. Casual dress is encouraged for this luau-themed dance. $8 per couple. Call 321-1383.

SATURDAY

PARTY IN THE PARK: Meet your friends and neighbors from 4 to 9 p.m. at the dedication of the new Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road, Seminole. Family activities from 4 to 7 p.m., dedication ceremony 6 p.m. with a concert featuring Molten Mike from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Seminole firefighters will serve barbecue from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a charge for barbecue -- everything else is free. AQUARIUM FISH HUNT: Go on a wild fish hunt from 10 a.m. to noon at The Pier Aquarium on the second floor of The Pier, 800 Second Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. Discover interesting facts about the aquarium's inhabitants, with all successful fish fact finders getting a prize. Donations appreciated. Call 895-7437.

UNFORGETTABLE ACOUSTICS: Experience Odetta, the grand dame of acoustic folk blues, with special guest Roy Book Binder at 8 p.m. in the Palladium Theater. Proceeds benefit community radio station WMNF's building fund. $15 advance, $18 door. Call 822-3590.

LIVING HISTORY: Bring blankets and chairs and witness Union and Confederate troops as they take to the battlefield for a day of Civil War re-enacting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eighteenth Annual Heritage Village Skirmish, 11909 125th St. N, Largo. See the USS Ottawa and the 79th New York Highlanders re-enacting groups perform artillery demonstrations and infantry drills on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m., and lecture presentations on the Hillsborough River raid at 10 a.m. and noon. A Sutler's Row, featuring reproductions of period items for sale, will be set up near the Lowe Barn, with refreshments available for purchase (or bring a picnic). Also, an Officers Call is planned for 11:30 a.m., a court martial at noon, a grand review and formation and arms inspection at 1 p.m. The battle is scheduled for 2 p.m. Historical buildings are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: The Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE in St. Petersburg, welcomes back Gary Schocker on flute and Jason Vieaux on guitar for two performances at 7 p.m. Also 2 p.m. Sunday. Both days will include works by Merlin, Villa-Lobos, Bach and an original composition by Schocker. $15, $7 for students 22 and younger. Seating is limited, reservations required. Call 896-2667.

IN THE GARDEN: A workshop with landscape arborist and horticulture consultant Jack Siebenthaler is planned for 10 a.m. at the Florida Botanical Garden in the Pinellas County Extension Service, 12175 125th St. N, Largo. Learn about the history of flowering trees in Florida. Free. "Celebrating Seeds," a workshop for kids, is also presented at 10 a.m. Master gardener Bob Abben helps collect and compare plant seeds and sends participants home with seeds planted in pots. Free.
