FOOTBALL: Hillsborough High offensive lineman Tavaris Thomas has signed a scholarship with Edward Waters College in Jacksonville.

Thomas earned Times all-county honors and was named all-Western Conference in a vote by area coaches.

Miles Bilinski, Bloomingdale's head coach for the past three years, will work this fall as a special teams coordinator at Hillsborough High, where he also will teach science.

In other coaching moves at Hillsborough, Kirk Karsen, a varsity linebacker coach last year at Gaither, has been hired as the junior varsity coach.

And Steve Longfellow, a longtime assistant coach at various schools, has been hired as the inside linebackers coach.

Hillsborough High is holding an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chelo Huerta Field for all ninth- and 10th-graders interested in playing football.

Brandon High will hold an organizational meeting for the upcoming season.

All varsity and junior varsity players and parents should meet in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday. Topics to be covered include physicals, athletic applications, important dates and the booster club.

SOCCER: MLS Camps, the official camp of Major League Soccer, will have one more five-day camps in Pinellas County.

It is from 6 to 9 p.m. July 30-Aug. 3 at St. Petersburg Junior College, Clearwater campus.

It costs $105 per participant ages 6 to 18. For information, call Allan Beaver at (727) 536-9443.

Participants will receive an individual player evaluation, Lego gift, soccer ball, T-shirt and companion ticket to an MLS game. Parents and coaches can attend a free coaching clinic during the week.

MISCELLANEOUS: Riverview High will hold a fall sports information meeting at 7:30 p.m. July 30 in the auditorium, immediately following the ninth-grade orientation.

Fall sports coaches will be available to answer questions, and paperwork will be available.

Tryouts and practices for all fall sports begin Aug. 6. For more information, call 671-5045.
