KUHL IS LEAVING: County Administrator Gary Kuhl announced that he has accepted the position of water resource team administrator in Hillsborough County. Kuhl, the county administrator since December 1996, will leave in two months.

CRYSTAL RIVER FINANCES QUESTIONED: The city faces a daunting, complicated task in restoring order to its day-to-day financial operations, an interim audit has revealed. Many city accounts remain unbalanced to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and revenue accounting sometimes is unclear, according to the six-page report. Meanwhile, city staff is recommending the City Council raise the tax rate from 5.5 mills to 6 mills.

FOUR BOATERS RESCUED: Four Citrus residents were rescued after their boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico west of Crystal River. The boaters, ages 15 to 20, called for help on a cell phone they managed to keep dry. Emergency crews were mobilizing when a grouper fisherman happened upon the boaters and took them to shore.

CRYSTAL RIVER JAM LINEUP IS SET: Loretta Lynn is coming to Citrus County. Lynn, the queen of country music, will headline the sixth-annual Crystal River Jam, Nov. 3-5 at Rock Crusher Canyon Amphitheater. Also scheduled to perform: Tanya Tucker, the Bellamy Brothers and Johnny Paycheck.
