A former candidate for the Hernando County clerk of court landed in jail Friday for the second time this year after he failed to show up to a court hearing, which would have addressed a prior charge that he slapped a high-ranking sheriff's official.
Floyd Lombardi, 49, of 11038 Captain Lane in Spring Hill was arrested Friday and taken to the Hernando County Jail, where he remained Saturday on $5,000 bail. Lombardi was charged in February with slapping Maj. Richard Nugent of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office after the two allegedly got into an argument about an investigation into a bar fight in which Lombardi was injured. After his arrest, officials learned Lombardi had a prior felony record and booted him off the ballot.
