Molly McKesson, a sophomore-to-be at Gibbs High, played for the United States team that captured the Women's World Series baseball title July 4-8 in Toronto.

McKesson, who was hospitalized for two weeks April 28 with Subarachnoid bleeding, was cleared by doctors to play but was only permitted to make one appearance with a 45-pitch maximum.

McKesson, 15, played the first game of round-robin play, pitching three innings and allowing three runs while striking out two in a 7-1 loss to Japan.

The U.S. was 3-3 in round-robin play and qualified for the championship game against Japan (5-1). The title game July 8 at SkyDome was played after a Toronto Blue Jays-Montreal Expos game, and the U.S. defeated Japan 9-1.

Australia (2-4) beat Canada (2-4) 1-0 for third place.
