Win keeps Seminole in running for title

All but one champion has been determined in the Districts 5 and 12 all-star tournaments with the winners moving on to sectionals.

The only final remaining to be played is in District 5 junior baseball where Seminole faces Northwest tonight at 7 for the championship.

After being dropped into the loser's bracket by Pinellas Park National in a 12-4 loss Thursday, Seminole rallied to beat Pinellas Park 6-4 on Saturday behind the hitting of Louis Neary and Adam Chappie, who combined for six hits.

Monday, Seminole continued its hot hitting by defeating winner's bracket finalist Northwest 10-0. The victory forced tonight's rematch.

In Monday's win, Ryan Reilly pitched a complete game while adding two hits. Neary, Chappie and Jim Alcaide combined for eight hits and three doubles.

In major softball, Seminole beat Meadowlawn 18-2 to win the championship.

Seminole had 14 hits, including contributions from Erica Bueno, Lyndsey Andree, Michelle Ostrowski and Brittany Warren.

In District 12, Safety Harbor took the major softball title Saturday with an 11-3 win against Oldsmar.

Brittany Lemmin, Ashley Walter, Desirre Baker, Sam Ortega and Brittany Oates all contributed offensively. In an earlier game between the two teams, Oldsmar's Tabitha Bittle threw a no-hitter, her third of the tournament, for the victory.

Meanwhile, in major baseball, East Lake defeated Tarpon Springs 10-0 to reach the final against West Pasco behind a no-hitter from Steve Murphy. A.J. Ceaser and Mike Wilson provided the offense with home runs.

The teams met in the final Monday, but this time East Lake fell short as West Pasco outlasted a rain delay for a 3-1 victory.

In junior baseball, Palm Harbor won the championship by defeating Dunedin American 11-1.

Andrew Moltz earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing two hits and one run. Jimmy Richter went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Palm Harbor went 6-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents 79-17.

Palm Harbor also won the senior division with a 4-3 victory against Dunedin National.

Brian DeGonzague was the winning pitcher and Ryan Harvey closed out the seventh.

Offensively, John Petika went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Marcello Mennone scored two runs.
