ST. PETERSBURG -- The city's first fenced dog park will open at 9 a.m. Saturday at 3595 Locust St. SE, Coquina Key. The grand opening will feature treats for dogs and humans, as well as comments by a Coquina Key Neighborhood Association representative, city officials and City Council member Ernest Williams.

The 1-acre park will be enclosed by a 6-foot fence and feature separate water fountains for dog owners and their dogs. There will be a double gate entrance, benches and a picnic table. A time-out area is set aside in the park for dog behavior problems, and disposal bags for dog feces will be provided.

The park is east of Sixth Street S with an entrance bridge at 39th Avenue S. Once over the bridge, follow Elkcam Boulevard to Neptune Drive and turn left. Go to Wahoo Drive, turn left and the park is straight ahead on Locust Street SE.

For more information, call the Parks Department at 893-7335.
