Navy Electronics Technician 2 John Carroll concluded a six-month deployment on the Arabian and Mediterranean seas aboard the USS Harry S. Truman.

He earned a good conduct medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Navy Sea Service Ribbon and the Service Warfare Medal while supporting Operation Southern Watch. His ship visited Egypt, Crete, Rhodes, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Carroll, a 1992 graduate of Northside Christian School, is stationed in Norfolk, Va.

Navy Cmdr. Franklin Fries, son of Carol and Dan Fries of St. Petersburg, was promoted to his present rank while serving on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon.

A 1981 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School, he was a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at West Point.
