Senate candidate plans forum in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG -- U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum, the Republican candidate to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Connie Mack, will be in St. Petersburg on Saturday for an informal forum for any interested residents.

The town hall-style meeting is the latest of McCollum's "Florida Forums," where he travels across the state to talk to voters and answer questions. It is his first St. Petersburg forum, though he has held one in Clearwater.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N. The public is welcome.

3 teens accused of setting fire at library in Clearwater

CLEARWATER -- Last year, three teenage boys were tossed out of the North Greenwood Branch Library for looking at pornography on the Internet.

Now, police say the boys returned to the library early Sunday, broke in and set a fire that caused $100,000 in damage and will close the library for two months.

Arrested were Leander Showers, 18, of 802 Jefferson Ave., Larry Eugene Miles, 16, of 802 Jefferson Ave. and Shaun Eric Seymour, 17, of 807 Jefferson Ave.

Showers was charged with first-degree burglary, arson and manufacturing a firebomb. Miles was charged with burglary and arson, and Seymour was charged with burglary and manufacturing a firebomb.

Showers was held Thursday at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $70,000 bail. Miles and Seymour were taken to the Pinellas County Juvenile Detention Center.
