PORT RICHEY -- A man faces a charge of strong-arm robbery after he and two other still unidentified suspects allegedly beat up a man and his girlfriend at a local bar, sheriff's deputies said.

Vernon Thomas Sowell, 21, of 11010 Grant Drive in Port Richey, got into an argument with Clay Brown at Overtime Sports Bar on State Road 52 after Brown had been fighting with his girlfriend, Yvette Savard, deputies said. Savard left the bar about 2 a.m. and Brown followed her out, but was stopped by Sowell and two other men who allegedly started punching him, deputies said. One of the men also punched Savard in the face and grabbed her purse before the men drove off in a white Dodge Intrepid, deputies said.

Sowell was released late Wednesday from the Land O'Lakes jail on $8,500 bail.
