Dade City man says 2 men stole car he had borrowed

DADE CITY -- A 33-year-old Dade City man told Pasco sheriff's deputies that he was carjacked Friday morning while sitting in a borrowed car digging for change to use a pay phone, deputies said.

The man said he borrowed his friend's 1994 Mercury Tracer to drive to a pay phone outside SAA Beauty Supply, 37330 Lock St., and call in sick to work, deputies reported. He needed the day off to finalize his divorce.

The St. Petersburg Times is not naming the victim because the suspects have not been caught.

About 6 a.m., while he was digging through his pockets for change, two men asked him for change, he told deputies. One of the men threw a brick or rock through the car's back window.

While one man opened the driver's door and started hitting him, the other tried to pull him into the back seat, he told deputies.

He struggled free and ran from the car, he told deputies. As he was running he saw the car drive away so he returned to the pay phone and called 911.

He suffered cuts to his right arm and nose. When deputies arrived, he was covered in blood.

Hudson man reports gun threat, hit-and-run

SPRING HILL -- A Hudson man reported to deputies that a passenger in a car pointed a gun at him as he drove home early Friday morning.

Deputies said the man could provide little information, but he told them the following:

About 2 a.m. he was driving west from Miller's Pub on County Line Road about 2 miles east of U.S. 19 when a car pulled up next to him and a passenger pointed a nickel-plated revolver at him. He slammed on his brakes to avoid being shot and another car hit him from behind.

Both cars drove away and he did not know where they went.

Deputies asked why someone would point a gun at him and he said: "I don't know. Maybe I danced with his girlfriend."
