Letters to the EditorsThanks to Rotary Club for helping Lighthouse
© St. Petersburg Times, Editor: The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind would like to take this opportunity to thank the New Port Richey Rotary Club for their generous donation to the Little Lighthouse, a program for blind preschool children. The New Port Richey Rotary Club's donation will make possible a computer learning center to enhance the preschool skills for our smallest visually impaired clients. With your help we are able to change lives for the better.
County lucky to have caring sheriff's deputyI am compelled to write this letter to publicly acknowledge one of our Pasco County Sheriff's deputies, R. Roller. On my way home today my car blew the right back tire on Little Road. Not wanting to stop on Little Road, I drove to Schrader Elementary, where I normally turn, and pulled to the curb to survey the damage. A few hundred feet down I noticed a motorcycle on the sidewalk and a man leaning against it. I got back in my car and slowly drove toward the man. To my surprise it was a Pasco County sheriff's deputy. I yelled to him and asked if he could help me. He asked if I had road service, which I did, and he did the rest. He asked me to pull my car around the corner and told me help was on its way. He then said he had to be on his way to do his job, but several minutes later he returned with a bottle of cold water. He wouldn't even let me pay him. What a kind and thoughtful thing to do. Not long after, the service truck came and I was off to the tire store. My husband passed in November 2000, and my family is up north. This deputy was R. Roller, and he was like an angel sent from above. I will never forget his kindness, and Pasco County is lucky to have men like him and I am sure there are many more. I have already written a similar letter to Sheriff Bob White, but I would like to publicly thank him and let others know how lucky we are.
