NFL: Hate to pull you away from another exciting Tampa Bay Dissa-Rays season, but it's time to celebrate the kicking off of training camps opening this week. The Buccaneers, favorites to win the Super Bowl, report to the University of Tampa July 29.
IOC: It picked, as its new president, Jacques Rogge of Belgium, who says he wants to downsize the increasingly commercialized Olympics and step up the fight against drugs in sports. If he can pull it off he deserves a medal.
THE EXPOS: The average Devil Rays attendance at Tropicana Field is 15,307, so a crowd of 14,625 would be typical. That's what they drew in Montreal -- for three games combined. Canadian currency is devalued, but not nearly as much as its National League team.
GRO ESPESETH: The defender for the New York Power, a veteran of Norway's national soccer team, was yellow-carded (that's just a warning, not an ejection) by an official in a WUSA match game against Atlanta and burst into tears. All together, now: "There's no crying in soccer!"
NBA FREE-AGENT FRENZY: When the Nets sign Todd MacCulloch to a $35-million, six-year offer sheet and the 76ers actually have 15 days to match the offer or, heaven forbid, lose the backup center, well, let Bill Murray in Stripes state the obvious. "There's something wrong! Something seriously wrong!"
