Life slows down in the summer, and that's good news for art lovers.
"People have a little more time in the summer to enjoy the arts," said Deb Stoberl of the Tampa Gallery Association, which is holding its Summer Breeze Gallery Hop 2001 from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
"I like these hops because they are a good way to keep all of the artists and art galleries networking. People need to know that there is art in Tampa," said Carolyn Kossar of Hillsborough Community College, which participated in last year's gallery hop. Donations gathered at the hop, which is free to the public, will go to the Hillsborough Education Foundation to create art scholarships.
Romeo Art & Design Gallery is celebrating its grand reopening in conjunction with the art hop. Owner Walter Romeo is a seasoned veteran of the art world.
"My wife, Sara Romeo, and I owned a showroom gallery in Ybor for 15 years. Then, she ran for state representative and won. She was half the business, so we closed down for a while. I missed it,though, and decided to come back."
The event includes transportation on HARTline's yellow trolley buses. Three routes are available, all beginning at the Tampa Museum of Art.
Parking is available in the Curtis Hixon Parking Garage at Ashley Drive and Twiggs Street. Trolleys will operate every 30 minutes throughout the day and are free.
