Play Ball: The Story of Little League Baseball, book signing (7 p.m., Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 11802 N Dale Mabry Highway). Local authors Lance and Robin Van Auken have chronicled the history of America's pastime. Before there were soccer moms, there was Little League practice to hustle the kids off to. Kevin Costner, Mark McGuire and George W. are quoted in the book; all are graduates of this piece of Americana. Play Ball travels from the earliest days in Williamsport, Pa., and packs in illustrations, pictures and sidebars as an offering to other Little League alumni. But we're sure you can get a copy even if you were a spectator. Call (813) 962-8097.
Friday
Blue's Clues Live! (June 27-July 1, 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, 10:30 a.m., 7 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. Sunday, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, $11, $21, $26). If you haven't heard of this, get out from under that rock. Blue and her friend Steve are back by popular demand to follow up their sold-out dates in 2000. This interactive theater show is based on Nickelodeon's popular television show for pre-schoolers. The audience can participate with characters such as Slippery Soap and Tickety Tock. The best part is it's in person, not through a glass screen. Call (813) 229-7827.
Saturday
Jobsite Theatre First Annual Fundraiser (7:30 p.m., Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Shimberg Playhouse, $10). If variety is the spice of life, this line-up is very zesty. Announcements, shows and crowd-pleasers will abound at this fundraiser for the fledgling Jobsite Theatre. Local actor/comedian "ranney" will entertain during the reception. When the party moves into the playhouse, local musician Joe Popp will make an announcement, and Jobsite's fourth season will be revealed. All 37 of the Bard's plays will be condensed into 90 minutes for a one-time only return engagement of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). Call (813) 229-7827.
All About Kids Back To School Bash (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St., $6 adult, limit three children, free 12 and under). It may be years before your child even reaches pre-school, but there is plenty you can learn before sending them off to make their first refrigerator masterpiece. Fathers can race in the Daddy Dash wearing a 40-pound labor belly. Shana Banana, Willie Wonka and his Wonkamobile and 10-year-old country sensation Morgan Cheek will offer a break between getting your kids' hair cut and volleying on the tennis court. Call (813) 335-2689.
Tampa Gallery Association Gallery Hop (3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tampa Museum of Art, 400 N Ashley St., donation). This semi-annual event has been going on for longer than most of the participants can remember. As you loop the city, you help support the local arts with donation drops at each of the 16 stops. Three loops will cruise all around South Tampa, Hyde Park and Ybor City. Call (813) 274-8130.
Etta May (8 p.m., Improv, 1600 E Eighth Ave., $8) Take Brett Butler and dress her in pointy glasses, a floral print blouse and polyester pants and you have Etta May. According to her publicist, the 1999 female comic of the year popped into the business as a bingo caller who had to entertain the Catholic masses when the ball sucker got stuck. Etta's husband drives a truck. She gives her children Valium. Her daughter thinks playing hard to get means wearing a three-hook bra. Call (813) 864-4000.
Fritzy Brothers "One Man" Circus Show (1:30 p.m., College Hill Branch Library, 2607 E M.L.K. Jr. Blvd.) Show your kids how much fun it can be to juggle and catch coconuts in your mouth, pop wheelies on a specially rigged unicycle, and eat fire. But be sure to remind them it's more fun to watch someone do it than attempting these tricks at home. They may get their fill if they're picked from the audience to earn a Ding-A-Ling certificate for playing the bells. Call (813) 273-3681.
Sunday
Vans Warped Tour (noon, USF Soccer Stadium, 4202 E Fowler Ave., $25.75, $30) If you like the idea of music festivals but you're not into gargantuan mudfests or sleepytime neighborhood family fests, then the Warped Tour may be the one for you. The likes of 311, Pennywise and Rancid will be there. The Rollins Band will also offer up some heavy riffs, rousing lyrics and sweet eye-candy. Call (813) 287-8844.
American Cannabis Society Reggae Show with Specialist & Yard Syndicate, Positivity, B-Ice DJ Jah-B, Dosages, High Fire (3 p.m.-8 p.m., Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, $5, $7) If you aren't sure what you can do with cannabis, this will provide many opportunities to learn. Booths, educational audio tapes and flyers outlining the benefits of cannabis can be perused throughout the day. You also can just groove out to the five reggae bands. (813) 971-0666.
Monday
Katie Adams "Make Believe Theatre" (10 a.m., Thonotosassa Branch Library, 10715 Main St.) Cinderella doesn't have to be set in a castle in Europe. This production is a fairy tale all right, "Cracker" style. Using puppets that look like old-fashioned toys, gowns made of moss and magic oak trees, Adams adapts Cinderella's story to old-time Florida. This production and another story of pirates off the coast of Florida will be interactive. (813) 282-4993.
Tuesday
'N Sync (7:30 p.m., Raymond James Stadium, $15.50-$65.50) If you didn't get to see them in January because you were elbowed out by rowdy football fans, this is your second chance. Call (813) 287-8844.
Wednesday
Impulse (8 p.m., Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, $4) Jump, bounce, skip, hop, spin. Do whatever you consider dancing, just make sure you dance. That's just what you do when you hear reggae. Mix it in with Skipper's sandy courtyard and throw in a few stars and even the stickiest of wallflowers will get their toes tapping. (813) 971-0666.
